In the past few years, (generative) AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot have become omnipresent. Many people have already used the tools for various tasks, but how can you use these in your research? In this session, we will shed some light on the types of tasks for which you can employ (Gen)AI, how you can use the tools effectively and what opportunities and responsibilities accompany the use of (Gen)AI. We will focus on Ghent University policy and relevant guidelines, risk mitigation and the incorporation of (Gen)AI tools in the various stages of your research.

This session will address GenAI use in the context of publications, proposals and outreach.  You will learn how to use well-known chatbots more efficiently using context engineering, AI-agents and the deep research function. In addition to this, we will also discuss a specific tool geared towards data and  content visualisation. Find out… whether it is better to choose ChatGPT or Copilot? How you know which tools you can use for a specific task? Whether you are allowed to upload papers into a free tool? And whether you can use AI to give feedback on your own work (or someone else’s)?
