Journals

The collections of Ghent University Library provide an overview of all available journals, both in print and digital format.

1. Searching via the library catalog

You can search millions of scientific articles directly via lib.ugent.be. The online library catalog searches ‘Everything’ by default. ‘Everything’ means that, in addition to the physical collection, you can also search e-resources (articles, e-books, chapters, etc.) from various scientific databases and publishers. To find only scientific articles, you can filter your search results under ‘type’. At the top, you can also easily indicate that you only want to see articles that are available online.

2. Searching via a database

You can also search for scientific articles via the available databases. (PubMedEmbaseWeb of ScienceGoogle ScholarScopus,, etc.). If you access a database via the catalog, you will automatically be asked to log in with your Ghent University account, after which you will have access to Ghent University resources.

If you do not want to go through the library catalog every time to access UGent, it is worth installing the Lean Library extension.

You can always consult the full text of articles in all electronic journals to which UGent subscribes. There is usually an (Access @)UGent button or Full text button in the database.

If there is no UGent or Full text button, search for the article in Google Scholar to see if you can find the full text online. For best results, install the Lean Library extension.

Still no results? Then search the library catalog for the journal in which the article was published. It is possible to request a scan of articles from journals that are only available in print in the Ghent University collection.

A scan request from the UGent collection is free and the article will be mailed to you as a PDF file.

Not found the article you want?

Then you can submit an interlibrary request. We will search for the document in a network of national and international libraries. (More information and rates).

You can receive the contents table of a journal by e-mail via the website van JournalTOCs website. You can subscribe to this service free of charge.
