SUMMARY:Practical perspectives on Rspace (Learn\, share\, discuss about the UGent Electronic Lab Notebook)
DESCRIPTION:Ghent University has made the Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) RSpace available for all researchers. This ELN software is an online tool that allows researchers and students to effectively document their research progress\, and it constitutes a digital transformation\, by replacing the paper lab notebooks. \nIn October 2026\, it is time to take stock and to review the usage of the ELN: \n\nWhy is it important to use an ELN?\nWhat is RSpace?\nHow can I use the software?\nHow are other groups using the ELN?\n\nLaura Standaert\, data steward for life sciences and medicine will set the stage\, after which we will open the floor to research groups already using the ELN. \nNo prior knowledge required. Come and learn about the ELN or join the discussion if you have already started using RSpace. (RSpace info page at UGent: https://researchtips.ugent.be/en/tips/00002245/) \n  \nGuest speakers: Laura Standaert (UGent) \nLanguage: English \nSign up: https://event.ugent.be/registration/K2Crspace

SUMMARY:Presenting with impact
DESCRIPTION:How do you turn complex research into a presentation that is clear\, engaging and relevant to your audience? \nIn this practical session\, Hans Van de Water focuses on the presentation techniques that make an immediate difference\, and on the mistakes researchers make most often. You will see what commonly goes wrong\, why it does not work\, and how a few simple techniques can instantly improve the way you present your research. \nWe focus on three essentials: \n\nKnow what you want your audience to take away. Learn how to adapt your presentation to your audience and sharpen your core message.\nBuild a structure that works. Discover how to guide your audience through complex information without losing them along the way.\nBring your message to life. See how simple choices in slides\, delivery and interaction can make your presentation clearer\, more engaging and more convincing.\n\nThe session is particularly relevant for researchers and clinicians working in health and medicine\, with concrete examples and techniques that can be immediately applied to research presentations\, scientific meetings and other professional settings. \n  \nGuest speakers: Hans van de Water ( trainer and founder of The Floor is Yours. For more than 15 years\, he has helped researchers and professionals communicate complex ideas clearly and convincingly\, from conference presentations and pitches to high-stakes conversations with stakeholders.) \nLanguage: English \nSign up: https://event.ugent.be/registration/k2cpresentingwithimpact

SUMMARY:Supporting researchers throughout their PhD journey – From onboarding to defense
DESCRIPTION:The Faculty Doctoral Committee is committed to fostering both research excellence and researcher well-being throughout the doctoral journey. From onboarding to defense\, doctoral researchers are guided through a structured yet personalized trajectory. \nEach doctoral researcher is supported by a Doctoral Advisory Committee (DAC) and a project counselor. This session will outline their respective roles and responsibilities\, as well as the expectations associated with the mandatory annual evaluation meetings. \nThroughout the doctoral journey\, researchers are encouraged to develop a comprehensive PhD research portfolio that documents research progress\, academic contributions\, societal outreach\, and professional development. We will explore the PhD portfolio across the different stages of the research cycle\, as well as researchers’ competency development and the training opportunities available to support continued growth. \nFinally\, we will take a closer look at the faculty minimal requirements to submit the PhD for defense. The session will provide an overview of the doctoral examination process\, including written evaluations\, the internal defense\, and the public defense before an independent jury. The trajectory concludes with an offboarding procedure enabling continuous improvement of doctoral support mechanisms. \nThis session is relevant to all doctoral researchers\, including clinicians and medical doctors pursuing a PhD alongside their clinical work. \n  \nGuest speakers: Kim De Keyser (UGent) \nLanguage: English \nSign up: https://event.ugent.be/registration/k2cphdjourney
