Funding agencies require that all research complies with the highest ethical principles, and BOF/IOF-funding is no exception. For this reason, every research proposal has to be accompanied by an ‘ethics questionnaire’, which is also known as an ‘ethics self-assessment’. In this questionnaire, researchers are asked to state whether ethical issues apply to their proposal (just as is the case for Horizon Europe, FWO and many other funding agencies).
Still, it might not always be clear what ethical principles apply to your research, how you can ensure your research complies with these principles, and where you can ask for an ethics advice or approval.
From now on, Ghent University’s Research Tips website contains guidelines on how to complete the ethics questionnaire for a BOF or IOF application.
